Here is an ORIGINAL (and RARE) $500 Confederate Bond. IF, this was Bond (# 364) it would have been issued from August, 1864 -to- March 1st, 1865. There was 20,000 bonds of these Confederate # 364 printed. This Confederate issue is NON-registered as a «UN-USED» Bond. According to my research, this could have been the registered BALL Bond # 365 — «UN- USED». Only 4,650 Printed bonds of # 365 were issued March 2nd — April 1st, 1865. This «NON-Taxable» Certificate should have been signed by CHARLES A. ROSE , as Assistant Register of the Confederate Treasury. The image used on this bond illustration is (see image # 3) is of»a man and stile at the top left». This «NON-TAXABLE» Certificate of indebtedness besides falling into denomination and transfer form varieties are also marked by a considerable quality of partially issued or un-issued remainders. Many of these bonds remained unsold at the end of the war. Size of this Confederate Bond is: 13.75 by 7.5 inches. Read to be framed ! Document is 160 years old !! The bonds accounted for 32% of CSA revenues compared to 60% from printing currency. The bonds were issued as a way of taking some paper currency out of circulation. Early in the Civil War, these bonds seemed a worthwhile investment to the Southerners who bought them, but when the war ended and the government dissolved, the U.S. government refused to cover Confederate debts, making the bonds worthless as debt instruments or market securities. This is a $1000 Confederate bond, Ball # 201, with an 8% interest rate issued on March 2nd, 1863. It is a unique historical artifact from the Civil War era, representing a significant piece of Confederate currency.
